Optimizing NF1 Tumor Management Across the Lifespan: Integrating Pain and Quality-of-Life Assessment into MEK Inhibitor and Surgical Decision-Making

The education will address multidisciplinary management of neurofibromatosis type 1-associated plexiform neurofibromas across pediatric and adult care settings. Faculty will examine how patient-reported pain, functional impact, and quality of life should influence decisions to observe, initiate treatment, or escalate care. The program will also explore how MEK inhibitor therapy can be integrated with surgery, including patient selection and potential neoadjuvant, adjuvant, and salvage approaches. Finally, learners will review practical strategies for anticipating, monitoring, and managing MEK inhibitor-related toxicities while maintaining treatment intensity and avoiding unnecessary discontinuation.
